Reputation: The most important criteria for judging an insert manager is the company's reputation in the mailing list and insert media industry. How long have they been in business? Are they ethical? Are they respected by their peers? Are they active contributors to the industry in terms of DMA involvement and support? Marketing Plan/Proposal: A well thought out marketing plan is the key. Are the revenue projections realistic? What sales and marketing techniques will be used to meet their goals? This would include telemarketing, sales presentations, ad campaigns, trade show representation, etc. Staffing: Are they adequately staffed to handle the work load that a new mailing list or insert media program will generate? Should an Owner choose a large firm or a small one? Large or small, the Owner should expect the same professional attention. Chemistry: Does the personality of the insert management firm and their work ethics, style and key personnel blend well with my company? There should be synergy between the two companies. Reporting system: Will the manager be able to provide activity data in report formats that are easy to use and understand? Will their reports enable me to manipulate the data so as to review activity by a specific market and/or mailer? Will the reports, particularly the financial reports, be made available in a timely manner? |
